Guy Harcourt-Wood is Cape Town born, UK trained Sommelier, and is incredibly passionate about his work. For the past seven years he has served at some of London’s finest Michelin-rated restaurants, where he has cultivated an extensive understanding of international wine trade and the European palette. This combined with his local expertise and experience, provides him with a wealth of knowledge that he loves to share. With a particular penchant for food and wine pairing.
Returning to South Africa, Guy is determined to unearth and share our local culinary and wine gems. Taking a relaxed and informative style, Guy makes wine appreciation accessible and enjoyable to everyone. Swartland wine region: The historic picturesque Riebeek Valley nestled against the Kasteelberg (Castle Mountains) is where the charming villages of Riebeek West and Riebeek Kasteel will enchant you with their wineries, museums, crafts and fabulous eateries. This region is leading the way with its outstanding white and red blends produced from some of South Africas’s oldest vines. The region is also well-known for its prolific olive production and these too can be sampled.
Elgin wine region: The Elgin Valley is home to some fantastic cool climate wines and beautiful country living. This lush valley, only 45 minutes from Cape Town, grows vines at high altitude. Ringed by mountains, producing elegant and complex wines with fresh appeal. The Elgin valley has been known for almost a century for it’s famous fresh produce, most notably apples and pears. The same attention to detail is given to its vines as its produce, providing them with quality raw material to craft precision wines.
Hemel-en-Aarde region: The Hemel-and-Aarde Valley near the coastal town of Hermanus offers an unforgettable wine experience in the Overberg. The wines produced in this region are unique to South Africa. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir excel here due to the cooling influence of the sea and the Clay substrata soils. The Hemel-en-Aarde valley is unlike others in the Overberg. With it’s magnificent mountains and breathtaking views, the valley offers a wide range of award-winning wine cellars, restaurants and picnic sites. Perfect for the whole family.
Stellenbosch Wine Region: Stellenbosch holds the honour of being the most well known town in South Africa. A variety of soils and stunning locations ideally suited to the growing of a wide variety of cultivars, has seen Stellenbosch continue to dominate the wine regions in terms of popularity.
