The region is also well-known for its prolific olive production and these too can be sampled.
Elgin wine region: The Elgin Valley is home to some fantastic cool climate wines and beautiful country living. This lush valley, only 45 minutes from Cape Town, grows vines at high altitude. Ringed by mountains, producing elegant and complex wines with fresh appeal. The Elgin valley has been known for almost a century for it’s famous fresh produce, most notably apples and pears. The same attention to detail is given to its vines as its produce, providing them with quality raw material to craft precision wines.
Hemel-en-Aarde region: The Hemel-and-Aarde Valley near the coastal town of Hermanus offers an unforgettable wine experience in the Overberg. The wines produced in this region are unique to South Africa. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir excel here due to the cooling influence of the sea and the Clay substrata soils. The Hemel-en-Aarde valley is unlike others in the Overberg. With it’s magnificent mountains and breathtaking views, the valley offers a wide range of award-winning wine cellars, restaurants and picnic sites. Perfect for the whole family.
